Open Vaultwarden in your browser
Vaultwarden is Saxon's password vault. The public address is vault.saxobroko.com.
This guide walks you through opening it and unlocking it step by step. No prior experience required.
Before you start
Gather these before opening the site:
- Master password for the vault — from Saxon's secure handover (not in SaxDocs).
- YubiKey — usually the desk key (USB-C, plugged into the PC) or the portable key on a keychain. See Desk YubiKey or Portable YubiKey.
- A web browser — Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari on phone or computer.
Same vault everywhere
Phone app, browser extension, and website all use the same account and the same server address: https://vault.saxobroko.com
Steps — open and unlock
1. Open the website
- Open your web browser.
- In the address bar, type exactly:
https://vault.saxobroko.com - Press Enter.
- You should see the Bitwarden / Vaultwarden login screen (email field and master password field).
If the page does not load — see Troubleshooting below.
2. Enter your email
- Click the Email field.
- Type the vault account email — the same one Saxon used for Bitwarden (check handover notes if unsure; it is not listed in SaxDocs).
3. Enter your master password
- Click the Master password field.
- Type the master password carefully — it is long and case-sensitive.
- Do not tick "remember me" on a shared or public computer.
4. Complete two-factor authentication (2FA)
After email and master password, the site may ask for a second step:
If it asks for a security key (YubiKey):
- Make sure the desk YubiKey is plugged into a USB port or have the portable key ready.
- When the browser popup appears, click Allow or Continue.
- Enter the YubiKey PIN if prompted (PIN is in Vaultwarden — if this is your first login, Saxon should have shared it separately).
- Touch the gold circle on the YubiKey when it blinks.
If it asks for an authenticator code:
- Open the authenticator app on Saxon's phone (or recovery method from handover).
- Type the 6-digit code before it expires.
See What is 2FA? if this step is confusing.
5. You are in — find a password
- You should now see your vault — a list of saved logins.
- Click Search (magnifying glass) at the top.
- Type what you need, e.g.
MyState,Vanguard,Amazon. - Click an entry to view username and password.
- Use the copy icons to copy username or password to the clipboard.
- Paste into the bank or shop site in a new tab — stay logged into the vault until you are done.
Lock when finished
When you are done, click your account menu → Lock vault or close the browser tab on shared machines.
Using the phone app (optional)
- Install Bitwarden from the App Store or Google Play.
- Open the app → Settings → Self-hosted environment (or similar).
- Set server URL to:
https://vault.saxobroko.com - Log in with the same email, master password, and 2FA as above.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| Page won't load / "can't reach site" | Check home internet. If away from home, you still need internet — the vault is on the public web. Try another network or mobile data. |
| Wrong master password | Caps Lock on? Different keyboard? Try again slowly. After several failures, stop — see Login troubleshooting. |
| YubiKey not detected | Plug desk key directly into the PC (not a flaky hub). Try another USB port. On phone, use portable key with NFC — Portable YubiKey. |
| Lost YubiKey and no backup | Use the second YubiKey if registered. Or use recovery codes from handover. See Login troubleshooting. |
| Forgot email for vault | Check handover papers or ask Ryan — do not create a new vault account; that would be empty. |
What not to do
Do not reset the vault account lightly
"Forgot password" flows can lock you out of everything if recovery was not set up. Read Login troubleshooting before clicking reset links.
