qBittorrent — do not touch
qBittorrent is the program that downloads movies, TV, and music files after someone requests them in Overseerr. It runs on the NAS, not on the Windows PC.
There is no everyday website most users need. Downloads happen automatically in the background.
The one rule
Unless you have been trained on the download stack, do not open, change, pause, or delete anything in qBittorrent.
Breaking downloads can:
- Leave half-finished files that clog storage
- Break Jellyfin (missing or corrupt media)
- Upset private trackers (account bans — serious)
- Waste days of queue time
What you should use instead
| I want to… | Use this |
|---|---|
| Watch something | Jellyfin |
| Ask for new content | Overseerr |
| See if downloads are "working" | Wait 24 hours; check Jellyfin; check Overseerr status |
| Fix the whole house internet | When internet is broken |
What qBittorrent does (background only)
Simple flow:
You never need to pick torrents manually for normal household use.
Technical detail: *arr stack, qBittorrent (technical).
If someone sends you a "qBittorrent link"
- Do not click unless a trained person told you to.
- Forward the request to whoever manages the server.
- Use Overseerr for movies and TV instead.
Warning signs something is wrong (tell a technical person)
- Overseerr requests stay failed for many days
- Jellyfin has no new content for weeks despite requests
- You accidentally opened qBittorrent and paused all torrents or deleted files
Do not try to "fix" by reinstalling apps or clearing folders.
Who is allowed to use qBittorrent?
Only people who have read:
- qBittorrent (technical)
- *arr stack
- Aither and trackers (if applicable)
Everyone else: Overseerr only.
