Cancel subscriptions overview

Saxon paid for several subscriptions — services that charge every month or year. After he died, some should be cancelled, some kept for now, and some transferred (with care).

This page is an overview. Exact costs and login steps are in Subscriptions and Vaultwarden.

Golden rules

  1. Do not cancel everything on day one. Home internet, insurance, and utilities may still be needed.
  2. Use Vaultwarden to log in — passwords are not in these guides.
  3. Check the bank after a few weeks for stragglers still charging Saxon's card.
  4. Keep receipts if the estate pays cancellation fees.

Domain and hosting are special

Cancelling Cloudflare, GitHub, or saxobroko.com can take down docs.saxobroko.com and Saxon's password vault. Talk to Ryan before touching those.

Detail pages: Subscriptions folder.

Step-by-step: general cancel process

  1. Open Vaultwarden and find the service name.
  2. Log into the service's website or app.
  3. Go to Account, Billing, or Membership.
  4. Choose Cancel, End membership, or Close account.
  5. Screenshot the confirmation email.
  6. Note the last billing date so you can spot double charges.

Step-by-step: Amazon Prime

  1. Go to amazon.com.au — log in with Saxon's account (Vaultwarden).
  2. Account & ListsPrime membership.
  3. End membership / turn off auto-renew.
  4. See also Amazon Prime detail.

Step-by-step: Greenfleet

  1. Go to greenfleet.com.au — log in.
  2. Cancel CarbonCover 365 if the estate should not continue donations.
  3. See Greenfleet detail.

Step-by-step: mobile plan

  1. Find carrier name in mobile plan doc or Vaultwarden.
  2. Call carrier ** bereavement line** or use online chat.
  3. Options usually:
  4. Cancel the number
  5. Transfer number to a family member (keeps 2FA texts — risky; prefer updating accounts first)
  6. Return any financed handset if applicable.

Update 2FA before killing the number

Many accounts send texts to Saxon's phone. Ryan should move important logins to new methods before the mobile plan stops.

What NOT to cancel without Ryan

Service Why keep
Cloudflare (domain DNS) Keeps saxobroko.com and tunnels working
GitHub Hosts SaxDocs source and SaxoStatus
Vaultwarden hosting All passwords
TrueNAS / home internet Server and docs access
UniFi Home Wi‑Fi

See All important URLs.

Homelab "subscriptions"

Some costs are donations or free tiers tied to Saxon's projects — GitHub, Cloudflare free/paid plans, etc. Ryan should review Finance index and bank statements rather than guessing.

Checklist (print mentally)

  • Amazon Prime
  • Greenfleet
  • Mobile plan
  • Car insurance (notify + cancel when car sold)
  • Streaming tied to Amazon or others
  • Any app stores (Apple/Google) subscriptions on Saxon's phone
  • Bank statement line-by-line for unknown charges

If this goes wrong

You cancelled Cloudflare and websites broke

  • Log back into Cloudflare if you can. Restore DNS. Call Ryan immediately.

Cannot log in — no password

  • Use Vaultwarden. If master password unknown, some services allow deceased account closure by email with death certificate.

Charge keeps appearing

  • Dispute with bank as deceased account charge. Cancel at merchant again with confirmation number.

Family wants Prime "for the shows"

  • Fine if estate pays and account terms allow — but change payment to estate card with solicitor approval.
