Read the will
Saxon wrote his wishes in a document called his will. This page explains it in plain language. It is not legal advice — a solicitor should read the official document.
Where the will lives
- On this docs site: will.md — Saxon's words, signed via GitHub on 25 August 2024.
- Possibly on paper at home, with a lawyer, or with family — ask if you cannot find it.
Follow the will, not guesses
Saxon said future updates should count unless they change what was written before a specific Git commit (bec5c06). When in doubt, show a lawyer both the doc and any paper copy.
Who Saxon was (for context)
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Name | Saxon Brooker |
| Date of birth | 30 April 2004 |
| Location | Sunbury, Victoria |
| Work | McDonald's Sunbury — Product Quality Manager |
The four big rules (summary)
1. All technology goes to Ryan
Phone, PC, server, and similar tech go to Saxon's brother Ryan.
Conditions:
- Ryan must not sell any of it.
- Ryan should learn to use the equipment (or keep it safely until he does).
- Until Ryan is ready, tech should be held and left unused — not wiped or sold.
Ryan may use these docs for guidance. Start with Guides overview and Who gets what.
2. Money does not go to family
Saxon's money must not reach family members as inheritance.
Instead:
- If Saxon has children: money is split evenly when each child turns 20, only if they are familiar with the finance section of these docs.
- If there are no children: the entire amount is donated to a charity chosen by Saxon's spouse, or if no spouse, by immediate family (for the charity choice only — not to keep the money).
Finance docs matter for children
The finance section starts at Finance index and the simpler guide Money overview for survivors. A solicitor should interpret "familiar with" in legal terms.
3. Other belongings — family can claim
Everything not covered above can be claimed by relatives who share a common ancestor of Glenda or Lynette.
After offering items to those relatives:
- What is left must be donated or recycled.
- Material that cannot be donated or recycled may be burned at a family gathering (Saxon's words).
4. Photos — content warning
Whoever goes through Saxon's photos will see things they do not want to see. Go slowly. Share the job if you can.
What the will does not spell out
The will does not list every subscription, bank password, or domain name. Those live in:
- Vaultwarden — passwords
- Finance — MyState mortgage, ~$31k offset goal, Vanguard
- Handover guides — who to call
Suggested steps after reading
- Share this summary with Ryan and whoever is handling the estate.
- Contact a solicitor in Victoria to probate or administer the estate properly.
- Do not move large sums from MyState or Vanguard until you have legal advice — see Contact banks.
- Read Who gets what for a room-by-room style breakdown.
If this goes wrong
Family wants to split the PC or sell the server
- The will gives all tech to Ryan with a no-sell rule. That is not negotiable without legal process.
Someone wants Saxon's money "to help the family"
- The will explicitly forbids giving money to family members. Redirect them to this page and the solicitor.
You cannot find an updated will
- Use will.md and any paper copy. Git history on SaxDocs shows later edits — a lawyer should review.
Children are under 20
- Money stays in estate/investment accounts until the will's conditions are met. Do not distribute early without legal advice.
