Glossary

Plain definitions for words Saxon used in these docs. No jargon on purpose.

Access (Cloudflare Access)

A login gate in front of some websites. You prove who you are before seeing docs.saxobroko.com. See Open the docs site.

Authentik

Software at auth.saxobroko.com that handles single sign-on — one login for several apps. Works with Cloudflare Access for docs.

Bitwarden / Vaultwarden

Password manager. Saxon stored logins at vault.saxobroko.com. "Vaultwarden" is the self-hosted version of Bitwarden. See passwords intro.

block no aus

Cloudflare Pages

Hosting for static websites built from files — e.g. docs.saxobroko.com and saxobroko.com.

Cloudflare Tunnel

A secure pipe from the internet to Saxon's home server without opening router ports. The program on TrueNAS is called cloudflared.

Docker

A way to run apps in boxes on the server so they do not break each other. Jellyfin, Vaultwarden, etc. run this way. See What is Docker?.

DNS

The phone book of the internet — turns names into addresses. See What is DNS?.

Domain

A name you rent on the internet — Saxon uses saxobroko.com.

Dream Machine SE (UniFi)

Saxon's router and firewall — UniFi Dream Machine Special Edition. Gives Wi‑Fi and controls the home network.

DSM (hostname)

Old name from Saxon's Synology days. The web address dsm.saxobroko.com still opens TrueNAS today.

Homelab

A home lab — personal servers and apps Saxon ran at home instead of in a data centre.

Homepage (dash)

Dashboard at dash.saxobroko.com linking to other services.

NAS (Network Attached Storage)

A storage computer on the network — files, photos, backups. Saxon's NAS runs TrueNAS on a Ugreen DXP 8800.

NPM (NGINX Proxy Manager)

Software that routes web requests to the right app inside the home network. Optional layer on TrueNAS.

Offset (account)

A bank account linked to a home loan. Money in it reduces interest on the mortgage. Saxon's target buffer was about $31k at MyState. See MyState offset.

Overseerr

Request site at request.saxobroko.com — ask for shows or movies.

RAIDZ1

A way to combine hard drives so one drive can fail without losing all data. Saxon's TrueNAS pool uses RAIDZ1.

Sonarr / Radarr / Prowlarr / Lidarr

Automation apps for TV, movies, indexers, and music — the "*arr" stack.

TrueNAS

Operating system on Saxon's Ugreen server — manages disks and apps. See What is TrueNAS?.

Tunnel

See Cloudflare Tunnel — safe path from internet to home.
